D7 Arpeggio

In 2nd, 7th and 9th Position

D7 in 2nd Position

First up let us review a D7 arpeggio we learned in an earlier lesson.  We first learned the D arpeggio in 2nd position in Lesson 6.

The notes of a D major triad are:  D  F#  A  (1st, 3rd and 5th degree of D major scale)

The notes of a D7 chord are:  D  F#  A  C  (1st, 3rd, 5th and b7th degree of D major scale)

Note that because of the b7th degree, the D7 chord does not belong to the key of D major.

D7 is a dominant V chord and would belong to the key of G major  (could also belong to the key of G Harmonic Minor but that is coming up in future lessons)

Note that we have to stretch our 1st finger (index) back to the 8th fret of the high E string to play that C.  In another lesson will look at an option of shifting to 10th position to play the C and then a high F#.
