Soloing in F minor

In this lesson we look at soloing in the key of F minor!

Soloing in the key of F Minor

The video is old and I am playing over a different jam track then below.  They are both tripfuse ideas and both are in the key of F minor.  I will get the jam track from the video on this page soon.

The first thing we need to know about soloing over a song or progression (or chord for that matter) is knowing the key it belongs to.

This chord progression falls in the key of F minor.  Which would be relative to Ab major.  Both will have 4 flats (Bb, Eb, Ab, Db).

F Minor - 74 bpm in 6/8 time

I have been making a lot of jam tracks lately.  Some are becoming tripfuse tunes others are just tracks for the site.

This Jam Track is Taken from New tripfuse ideas

tripfuse - save me now - you will find some of the other ideas for this possible new tripfuse tune here.

So as you begin to solo over the jam track start with the F minor pentatonic scale and play up and down with quarter notes, eighth notes, eighth note triplets and sixteenths.

Some other things to think about when you solo:

  • Repetition
  • Theme and Variation
  • Use space/silence (take your time)
  • Dynamics (loud and soft)
