Alternate Picking

Here are the first 3 notes and are played as sixteenth notes.  We can pick it a few different ways and will discuss the options.  To start, we will alternate pick but notice the slur between E and F# which means we will hammer on the F# and not pick it at all.

Natural Picking (aka economy picking)

Another option is to natural pick it.  The idea behind this is to keep the pick moving in the direction it is already going if possible.  So in this case because the C and E are on different strings we can down pick from the C on the 4th string and continue to down pick to the E on the 3rd string.
