Broken Guitar Lesson

2 Part Lesson:  Fingerpick Intro/Verse and Strum Pattern in Chorus

This 1st part has us learning to play the fingerpick part of this song.  It takes a bit of time so have lots of patience with yourself.

0:20 - 1:30

You will probably want to play the E with your first finger and the F# with your 2nd finger.  In the video I hammer the G with my little finger however you could use your 3rd.  It will just mean you will play the Csus2 chord with fingers 1, 2 and 3 instead of the more common 2, 3 and 4.

1:31 - 2:07

Next we add our open B and G string played with your middle finger and index finger respectively.

2:08 - 2:26

Next up we play the 1st string with our ring finger to sound the high G that we hammered on in beat 1.  Providing you didn't lift your finger up, it should still be on the 3rd fret of your high E string.  This could be your 3rd or 4th finger depending which you decided to hammer with.

2:27 - 3:47

Now we play a Csus2 chord on the & of beat 2.  In the video I play the chord with fingers 2, 3 and 4 however this is the chord you may want to play with 1, 2 and 3 if you hammered that G with your 3rd finger.  So which ever finger you hammered with should not move after the hammer and then dictates how you finger the chord.

Csus2

3:48 - 4:27

After playing the Csus2 chord, leave the fingers down and simply play strings 3, 2 and 1 with index, middle and ring respectively.

Note on the fretboard diagram is also a Csus2 from above however it shows the open D because we will need it for this part.

4:28 - 5:09

For beat 4 we will leave the Csus2 chord in place and play strings 2, 4, 3, 2 as four sixteenth notes and the fingers will be middle on 2, thumb on 4, index on 3 and middle on 2 again.

5:10 - 6:21

So the measure to the right is the same as above but from 5:10 - 6:21 in the video I go back over the measure slowly and then play it full speed 3 times in a row as it will do in the song.

6:22 - 7:19

Now we start the 4th measure of this 4 measure riff.  Remember the measure you learned above will be played 3 times before moving to this last measure.

7:20 - Video End (continues on Video 2)
