Scale Lesson 18

Eb Major Scale in 3rd Position

Eb Major Scale is built the same way we have built every other major scale.  Start on an Eb and use the formula:

W W H W W W H

We get:

Eb F G Ab Bb C D

Therefore the key of Eb has three flats and those flats are Bb, Eb and Ab.

Eb Major Pentatonic

Build by removing the 4th and 7th degree of the any major scale to make it pentatonic.  In the case of the Eb major scale, we would remove the Ab and D.  We are left with Eb major pentatonic:

Eb F  G  Bb C

C Minor and Minor Pentatonic Scale in 3rd Position

C Minor Scale

C minor is the relative minor to Eb major.

This means the key of C minor also has three flats and those are also Bb, Eb and Ab.
