C Major Scale in 5th Position

In this lesson we learn a new form for our C major scale.  This time we are in 5th position and we can easily play 2 octaves.

Some people prefer to not have to stretch to get the B (on 4th string) and instead shift back to 4th position to play it on the 4th fret of your G string.  This would mean you would play the C and D on 3rd string with fingers 2 and 4 instead of 1 and 3 if you were to stay in position and use the stretch to the B.

C Major Scale Extended in 5th Position

Play from A to A and you are playing an A minor scale.

C Major/A Minor Pentatonic in 5th Position

By removing the 4th and 7th from the C major scale we have a pentatonic scale.  In this case the F (4th) and B (7th) were removed.

Play from C to C and you are playing a C major pentatonic scale

Play from A to A and you are playing an A minor pentatonic scale
