D/F# - Slash Chords
A slash chord has a note in the base other than the root of the chord. (Root of C chord is C, root of G chord is G, etc.) Block your high E string. Let your 3rd finger gently touch it to stop it from ringing. You can block your 5th A string or let it ring (whichever you prefer). A is a chord tone.

Finger 1 = F# (3rd of a D major chord and scale)
Finger 2 = A (5th of D major chord and scale)
Finger 3 = D (Root of D major chord and scale)
